Natasha Swan is the founder of Natasha Swan Ceramics, based in Islandmagee, Carrickfergus. Natasha has a passion for clay and the huge possibilities and challenges of this versatile material.She has gained various art accreditations and in 2018 was selected as an ‘Irish Young Ambassador for Craft’ through the Michelangelo Foundation for Fine Craftsmanship and Design.
Natasha recently received funding of just over £5,000 from the NI Rural Development Programme to support her in setting up a new ceramics business.The funds were used to purchase several pieces of equipment including a kiln, pug mill, slab roller and extruder. This has enabled Natasha to produce functional tableware for homeowner’s in the North and South of Ireland.The product range includes mugs, jugs, bowls, plates, teapots, platters, vases and storage jars which are all hand made using the potter’s wheel.
Natasha who is a trained potter also used the grant to purchase a portable potter’s wheel.Therefore enabling Natasha to pass on her passion by delivering educational classes to the public in various locations.
Speaking of her new business and the funding received Natasha said:
“I am extremely grateful to have received the funding towards purchasing my equipment- without this grant the successful take-off of my business wouldn’t have been possible. Launching Natasha Swan Ceramics has been an exciting and challenging time, I’m looking forward to what lies ahead with huge thanks to the Rural Development Programme and my Local Enterprise for support from the beginning”.
Commenting on the grant awarded to Natasha Swan Ceramics, Mid and East Antrim LAG Board Chairperson, Kelli Bagchus, said:
“It’s great to see the NI Rural Development Programme grant supporting a young entrepreneur in establishing a new business. Not only will Natasha be producing unique pieces of tableware, she will also be using her skills and knowledge of ceramics to educate others at the classes she offers.We wish Natasha much success in her new business venture”.
To celebrate Global Entrepreneurship week Natasha Swan Ceramics will be taking part in Mid and East Antrim’s ‘Pop-Up Shop’ initiative based in Carrickfergus Main Street 14-18 December.
